Fireflies in Taiwan

        Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I hadn't been able to watch fireflies for over three years. At the beginning of May this year(2023), I  arranged a tour to witness these enchanting creatures near Taipei 101. The surprise I encountered during this experience was truly remarkable.

        This year,, the sheer amount of fireflies was astounding. They illuminated the night trail, creating a breathtaking sight that I hadn't seen in years. Their presence was a true spectacle and a testament to the resilience of nature.

        The duration of their dazzling flashes was awe-inspiring. The fireflies synchronized their illuminations, creating a mesmerizing light show that seemed like a  twinkling carpet. It was a reminder of the wonders of the natural world and its ability to captivate our senses.

        The park provided several observation spots for the fireflies within a few hundred meters. As an amateur photographer, I found that the park offered ample opportunities to capture stunning photos and videos. It provided me with sufficient views and materials to document this incredible experience.

Here are some key information if you want to watch the fireflies:

• Location & Transportation

        For foreign tourists, transportation is one of the major considerations when planning a trip. Since the firefly viewing locations are usually situated in suburban areas, the viewing typically takes place around 9 PM, when public transportation in many suburban areas has already ceased. Mountain Taiger is located near Taipei 101. It takes approximately 30 minutes to walk downhill to the nearest subway station.

• Season

The best season to observe fireflies is in late April to early May. Since the presence of fireflies is influenced by the weather, it is recommended to plan your trip with flexibility. Choose days with weather forecasts indicating temperatures above 20 degrees Celsius and several consecutive rain-free days.
