Yanshui Beehive Firecracks

        Lantern Festival is one of the most important festivals in Taiwan. In fact, the official name of the festival is Yuanxiao, a kind of traditioanl soup. a.k.a.  LanternFestival since most celebration  are related to lantern. However, there some unique traditional events. Here I would like to introuduce Yuanshui Beehive Firecracks, the most exciting event, according to my experience.

Mazu Pilgrimage

       Mazu pilgrimage is the most magnificent religious activity in Taiwan. It lasts about 10 days over 400 km. Hundreds of thousands of pilgrims escort the divine palanquin with the statue of Mazu inside. Local people and shops along the pilgrimage route will also provide drinking and food for pilgrims.

        Lantern Festival ( read as Yuan Xiao in Chinese) is one of the three most important  traditional festivals in the Chinese society ( the other two are Dragon Boat Festival and Mid Autumn Festival). It comes on the first full moon after Chinese New Year and the CNY is usually in the beginning of February. Lantern is the most common celebration in the festival. However, there are also other celebrations in different places, for example Flying Lantern Festival and Bombarding Handan Festival.
